America Saves Week: Our Work is Not Finished
March 6, 2013
By Katie Bryan, America Saves Communications Manager
America Saves Week may be over but our work is not finished. The sixth annual national survey assessing household saving, released as part of America Saves Week, revealed that only about half of Americans reported good savings habits.
Only 54% said they have a savings plan with specific goals and only 43% said they have a spending plan that allows them to save enough money to achieve the goals of their saving plan.
While the Week is an opportunity for organizations to encourage millions of Americans to save, America Saves remains a year-round effort. The momentum created during the Week will fuel our determination to help Americans build wealth, not debt each and every day.
This year during America Saves Week over 1,000 organizations signed up for the Week - offering Americans ways to take financial action. Through incentivized savings accounts, workshops, and by spreading the word about the importance of saving for emergencies and savings automatically, these organizations made a real difference to strengthen our nation’s savings habits.
America Saves will continue to work with organizations, our nearly 60 local America Saves campaigns, and with those who have taken the America Saves and Military Saves pledge to ensure that savings remains top-of-mind year round.
